Judas Priest is a heavy metal band and a leader of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). The musical style is defined by overdriven guitar, screaming vocals, and driving rhythm guitar. Judas Priest used the power of the guitar in an interesting manner. With three guitarists, there could be dueling leads or unison rhythm riffs creating a high-energy texture. The music is fast, dense, and loud. This recording was a popular radio hit, but it did not give up the heavy metal elements. While other metal bands were looking for pop hooks to make themselves more commercially successful, Judas Priest remained true to the heavy metal tradition that they helped forge.
